November 2018 Meeting Minutes

November 8, 2018

This meeting was also well attended by the LEO Club. Most members were on time, and the meeting began at 7 am as usual.

First, the club reviewed the recent success in the ramp build. The full participation and follow-through of members who signed up was key to success. Multiple LEOs shared what their experience was like, and how it provided them with an opportunity to create a direct, lasting and impactful change. Interest was expressed in doing another ramp build in the spring.

Next, the club discovered how the trip to Arlington had been funded by the Community Foundation. Permission slips for Arlington were handed out, and the cost was expressed at 5 dollars to all members. The officers briefly described Arlington Cemetery, and members were strongly encouraged to attend.

After discussing Arlington, the LEOs were encouraged to get other clubs that they are in to support the Leaderdog Fundraiser by participating in the Gingerbread House Contest.

As an ending note, the LEO officers asked everyone who had sold a bag of KettleKorn to raise their hands. Most seemed surprised to see only 3 LEOs raise their hands. The officers talked about the necessity of participation for success, especially in fundraisers in which small items must be sold in high supply.

This day was the LEO Club book-drive help at the Wicomico Library. Leos met at the Wicomico County Library at 10 in the morning and were divided into groups. A few Leos helped transport books and boxes, while most spent time alphabetizing a room filled with books. By the end of the project, an entire room of once-random books was sorted, and the local library was very appreciative of the many hours saved!

On this date, the LEO Club officers met to make their participatory gingerbread house. After a long-fought struggle, they managed to make a gingerbread train and got to watch another group build their house as well. Overall, there were 11 participating groups, who each bought a 25-dollar kit. With each kit costing the LEO Club 10 dollars, the club can make around 15 dollars per house. This means that the LEO Club could have made around 165 dollars, but with taxes and varying prices, this is only an approximate number.
